About Us

Solid Scorcher's gonna go big.

Learn its origin here!

First and foremost, if you didn't know already, which you probably didn't, I never said it anywhere else on here, but I'm Tannaki. You might know me from Twitter or Youtube. Probably the former. But anyway... The idea for Solid Scorcher actually came from an old Soap shoe forum I used to frequent called SolidGrind.com (Fun fact: Also where the name for this site came from. I just straight up stole the "Solid", and "Scorcher" is based on the Soap Scorchers, the grindshoe that eventually went on to inspire Sonic's Soap Shoes in SA2) which inspired me to create my own sort of website to post about my interests and just run a blog. It was meant to be really simple at first, but as time went on, it got a bit more complex. My knowledge of website creation is actually extremely limited, so I enlisted the help of a friend who asked to stay anonymous. He agreed to help build the site and give me the templates I'd need to put up a new blog page for every article in exchange for... like twenty bucks. Pretty killer deal to be honest. Anyway, as time went on, the site became less and less about 2000s culture, grinding, and skating, and more about gaming. At first, it was gonna be exclusively about 2000s gaming, even a public forum for users to post about their games, consoles, and modded hardware. However, Neocities just doesn't have the capibilities for forum hosting (or my friend is lazy, who knows.) so I decided to pivot back to my original blog idea. I love talking about video games, so why not go semi-official, and just start writing articles about them? It's a bit bigger than just engaging in my hobby though. And that's a good segue into that next fancy button you should go ahead n press.
Obviously, I'd love to be a source of information and reviews for people. I write this stuff for fun, but I also do it because I want to be like the content creators I watched growing up, who would review games and talk about odd video games and things that never released, the works. However, in the grand scheme of life, I want this to be the crown jewel of my portfolio. One day, I'd love to either work in gaming journalism, or as a writer on the Sonic IDW comics. I dunno. Kind of a big divide between those two. This site and the articles on it would definitely help more with the former. I'm hoping that I can improve my writing and journalistic "integrity" to the point where I can one day apply for a job at IGN or GameInformer and get picked. It's a bit of a crackshot, but has always been a dream of mine regardless. That, or the Sonic IDW writer thing. Or just being a successful content creator, but who doesn't want that?
Here's where things get a little special. I don't want to be a Cartmanland-er when it comes to this site. I think everyone should have a chance to report on things they find interesting or cool. So, I want to offer a platform, even if it's a small one. By using the contacts I've given on the "Contact Me" page, you can contact me directly with any sort of news or interesting tidbits you'd want me to cover. You can also include whether or not you'd like to be credited by name for the idea, or just generally come to me with whatever else you have. I'll also be opening a Patreon sometime down the line that would work more as a tip jar than anything else. Cheap tiers, fair rewards, and recognition for those who choose to subscribe. Opening a Patreon would allow me to properly fund the creation of YouTube videos as well as helping me pay for a proper content creation setup. I don't want to be one of those guys that tries to incognito guilt trip by going "ohhh if you don't donate I won't have a 150 dollar Yeti GX mic ohhhhh I need a better elgato ohhhh" so I'll be straight with you when it comes to what I would use that money for, what I expect (nothing), and how grateful I would be if anyone subscribed (very), as well as how hurt I would be if nobody subscribed at all (I wouldn't be. None of you owe me money. Unless you're Bryan. Bryan, if you're reading this, I haven't forgotten about my ten dollars.)
